On the 8th October Beavers from across Thurrock enjoyed their activity day at Condovers. The morning saw the young people achieve their Disability Awareness badge which involved trying to complete various tasks while experiencing various disabilities. This included trying to make a sandwich, paint without using their hands and completing an obstacle course in pairs with one being blind.
After lunch, it was time for the very first Beaver Sports Day! With egg and spoon, sack, three-legged, wheelbarrow and relay races the Beavers were very active the whole afternoon.
The following weekend was the turn of the Cubs and their Challenge Day which saw the young people exploring the streets of Grays while trying to complete various tasks and challenges.
Alongside answering various questions spread across the town, the Cubs also had to tie some knots, pitch a tent and perform some basic first aid. There was also a quiz for the Thurrock Museum which saw the young people learning about the history of the Borough.
The Cubs also visited Jamboree on the Air & Jamboree on the Internet which gave them the opportunity to communicate with Scouts from across the world over the internet and on amateur radio.
“I really enjoyed Cub Challenge Day because I got to do loads of questions and walking and playing,” said Oliver, a Cub from Orsett & Bulphan. “My favourite part was putting a tent up as we all worked together,” added Cameran from Belhus Park.
