Thurrock celebrates its Jack Petchey winners

23rd January 2013
On 21st January, Thurrock Council’s Chambers played host to Thurrock Scouts annual celebration evening of Jack Petchey award winners. The 14 Scouts and 2 leaders from Thurrock were also joined for the first time by 4 Scouts from Stanford-le-Hope District.

The evening was hosted by Mayor Yash Gupta and guests for the evening were Thurrock Scouts President Margaret Jones, her husband Merlin, and the District Commissioner for Stanford-le-Hope, Peter Cobley.

Thurrock’s Deputy District Commissioner, Graham Monk, was Master of Ceremonies for the evening. Graham managed to put all the awardees at ease by involving each of them individually; reading out their citations and requesting them to relate a “happy/memorable moment in scouting”.

The Mayor presented Jack Petchey Medallions, Margaret Jones presented certificates on behalf of the Jack Petchey Foundation and Peter Cobley presented Jack Petchey pin badges to all of the winners.

After the presentations and photo sessions, the Mayor kindly invited all the winners into the Mayors Parlour whilst the parents and leaders were shown a presentation on the present and future plans for the Condovers by one of the Condovers team, Ray Abbott.

Thanks for organising the very successful evening are due to Olive Clay, the Jack Petchey secretary for Thurrock, who also ensures the award in Thurrock runs smoothly, and to the Mayor for allowing this event to take place in such an important venue.
